Young people needed for trustee/director of the British Youth Council
Please pass on to any young people you work with – thank you.Would you like the opportunity to get involved in setting the direction of a national youth-led charity and representing its members' interests?
Can you be a passionate advocate of the British Youth Council’s vision, that young people across the UK will have a say and be heard?
Are you aged 16-25? Why not become a trustee/director of the British Youth Council?
We are looking for young people aged between 16 and 25 who are able to committ to at least to two years to become a trustee of the British Youth Council (BYC), or one year to be one of its officers. You can stand for re-election after the initial term and serve longer, adding to our pool of experience but once your reach 26 you can no longer stand.
BYC is led by young people for young people, aged 25 and under, across the UK - young people themselves set the direction of the organisation and contribute to our strategic development. Young people are also involved in the development of our activities and our communications with the media. We have several young volunteers based at our office in London who empower other young people through training and inspire them to join our campaigns.
As a trustee, you will need to be able to put the interests of BYC before any personal interests or links you have. You will need to have time to attend weekend Board meetings and act as an ambassador at other times. Its a big time committment but your expenses will be convered and you will gain valualbe experience and and networks. You role will involve thinking carefully about the choices BYC makes and the range of activities, programmes and campaigns it undertakes and how it prepares and plans for the future. But this doesn’t mean you’ll be involved in the day-to-day running of the organisation.
Your role will be to take a step back and look at the road ahead, thinking about future challenges and opportunities to ensure that BYC responds to the views and needs of all young people and to help empower them to have a say and be heard.
The board consists of thirteen young people (four Officers and nine Ordinary Members). Officers serve for a one-year term of office, while Ordinary Members serve a two-year term of office. (Occasionally there will be a vacancy for a one year term)

Application Deadline: 12pm on Wednesday 12th May 2010 - 12pm
Please note: You must be under 26 on the day of election, which is Saturday 4th September 2010.
