Worcestershire Children and Young People’s Plan 2011 to 2014

A new plan to improve the lives of children and young people in the county has been launched by the Children's Trust.

Worcestershire County Council and partners from the Worcestershire Safeguarding Children Board have collaborated to write The Worcestershire Children and Young People's Plan 2011-2014 which sets out their priorities and targets until 2014.

The purpose of the plan is to enable the different agencies and organisations to continue to work effectively in partnership and build on the substantial work that has gone on previously.

The document which has now been published, sets out a shared vision to make life better for children and young people. It covers all children and young people from 0-19 and some young people such as those with learning difficulties and care leavers, up to the age of 24.

To help decide the priorities for this Children and Young People’s Plan, the Children’s Trust used data and information about the needs of children, young people and families in Worcestershire, and consulted widely with children, young people, their parents and carers and those that work with them. It states how the priorities will be addressed and how the Children’s Trust will know when the priorities have made a difference to the life chances of children, young people and families in Worcestershire.

The main priorities set out in the plan are:

  • Children and young people will be protected from harm and neglect
  • Educational outcomes will be outstanding for all children and young people
  •  Young people will move successfully into adulthood
  • Children and young people have the opportunity to grow up in stable and secure families
  • Children and young people will grow up healthily.

Councillor Liz Eyre, cabinet member for children and young people's social care, said: "Our vision is for Worcestershire to be the best place it can be for all children, young people and their families and this plan sets out how we will work towards achieving this by focussing on some really key priorities agreed by all our partners after significant consultation. This plan would not have been possible without the support of all those who contributed to the consultation. We would like to thank everyone who took part, especially the children, young people, parents and carers and the Children's Trust Shadow Board whose input was valuable in shaping this plan."
