Opportunity of a lifetime!

For up to 30 keen, enthusiastic people who are willing to undertake an advanced apprenticeship in working with children and young people.

What do you get out of it?

An introduction to Integrated Youth Support Services (IYSS), with sessions covering each of the types of work and the opportunity to learn, develop and practice Personal Learning and Thinking Skills.

Formal qualifications include a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) 3 in Youth Work, a Vocationally Related Qualification (VRQ) 3 Certificate in Supporting Youth Work, Functional Skills Level 2 in Communications and Application of Number and a First Aid Certificate.

What do you have to put into it?

Attend training for one day a week for two years (32 weeks in each year). Meet deadlines for pieces of work given to you throughout the course. Meet regularly with your assessor to discuss your work and build your portfolios.

Do you have what it takes?

You need to:

be at least 18 years old
have some experience of working with children or young people
be working for at least 16 hours a week
be open to trying new things
be willing to take part in the group
be willing to commit to two years

How much does it Cost?
The whole training is free as it is funded by the Childrens Workforce Development Council. You will need to pay your own travel costs to the training venues. One of these will be in Leamington Spa, Warwickshire and the other will be dependent on where participants come from though we are currently considering Birmingham or Worcester.

Selection event
We are holding selection events on 18 June in the morning in Birmingham; 22 June in the morning in Worcester; 23 June in the morning in Leamington Spa; and 24 June in the evening in Leamington Spa. If you cannot make any of these dates do let us know you are interested.

The closing date for expression of interest is: 17th June 2010 for Birmingham and two days before for the others (after this date do continue to contact us to check if there are still places available). You can phone to book a place first.
