Doing Music Justice Training
The closing date for this West Midlands youth music course is August 19th, however anyone not around to meet that deadline should still make contact. The course is aimed at those using music as a medium to work with young people who are in the youth justice system or excluded from school.
DOING MUSIC JUSTICE
One of the most ambitious programmes of its kind, Doing Music Justice is a professional development programme providing intensive training and shadowing opportunities for experienced music leaders to work in youth justice settings in the West Midlands.
Doing Music Justice takes place September 2008 – March 2009, delivered by lead trainer Mark Bick and a range of experts in the field.
The programme is aimed at both experienced music leaders, and experienced youth justice workers with musical skills. Its aims and objectives include:
To equip 14 music leaders in the West Midlands to deliver effective music activities with young people in youth justice and young offender settings, such as Young Offender Institutions, Pupil Referral Units and with Youth Offending Teams.
To equip music leaders to work at the level of senior or lead practitioner.
To increase knowledge and understanding of the youth and criminal justice systems.
To build skills in working with young people with challenging behaviour.
To run 8 days of training, and organise opportunities for both observation of experienced practitioners and for paid project delivery work with the support of experienced practitioners and delivery organisations.
Signpost participants to potential employers and employment opportunities in the sector.
